Yesterday afternoon the Dolphins released their first depth chart of the 2010 pre-season. Hours before it was sent out, the coach warned everyone not to read too much into it, but what fun is that? Click here to take a look at it and below are a couple of highlights and observations:
-As expected, Brian Hartline is the starting receiver opposite of Brandon Marshall.
-The interior of the offensive line, which has been in major flux throughout training camp, has Richie Incognito starting at LG, Joe Berger at C, and rookie John Jerry at RG.
-Recently signed TE David Martin is listed as the fifth and final tight end on the roster, behind Anthony Fasano, Joey Haynos, Kory Sperry, and John Nalbone. If I were a betting man, when the next depth chart is released, I would bet that Martin is at least third.
-At quarterback, no surprise at the top, where Chad Henne is sitting, but interesting to see Tyler Thigpen second, Pat White third, and Chad Pennington fourth. I would guess this pecking order is mainly because Sparano has hinted that we will see a LOT of Thigpen and White in the first couple of pre-season games as they battle for what is likely one roster spot.
-On the defensive line, rookie Jared Odrick is indeed the starter at right defensive end, opposite Kendall Langford, with Randy Starks at NT.
-Rookie LB Koa Misi is also listed as a starter, at SLB, with Channing Crowder and Karlos Dansby at ILB, and Cameron Wake at WLB. Yesterday Sparano said that he has seen definite improvement out of Wake in non-pass rushing situations.
-Vontae Davis and Sean Smith are still listed as the starters at CB, so far holding off veteran Will Allen.
-As for one of the biggest question marks on this team, Chris Clemons continues to lead the way at free safety, starting in front of Georgia rookie Reshad Jones.
So, that’s how things look on this 10th of August, though I’m sure we will see plenty of changes throughout the pre-season. Regardless, some very interesting storylines to follow, and I’m looking forward to discussing this depth chart with former Dolphins Keith Sims and Troy Stradford on today’s radio show at 5 o clock.
