From Canada to Hawai’i?

Mr. Sack could soon be taking his four-point stance to the Pro Bowl

Dolphins linebacker Cameron Wake has been called many things. Growing up and in college at Penn State, he was Derek Wake.  In rookie camp with the New York Giants in 2005, Wake was sometimes called “Baby Strahan,” because of his dental similarities to the Giants star defensive end. When he reentered the world of professional football with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League, he began using his middle name, Cameron, as his first. While starring for BC, Wake earned the nickname “The Beast,” and this year in South Florida, a certain group of goofballs have taken to calling him simply “Mr. Sack.”

It is an appropriate nickname because of the regularity with which Wake has gotten to the quarterback in his first season and a half in the NFL. A guy that was recently out of football, working as a mortgage broker and personal trainer, is quite possibly having himself a Pro Bowl season for the Miami Dolphins here in 2010.

John Congemi, a CFL star in his own day, breaks down whether or not Wake should be expecting to complete the unlikely journey  from Canada to Hawai’i…

Not many people took notice a couple of years ago when Cameron Wake was terrorizing quarterbacks in the Canadian Football League, but most coaches, general managers, and especially offensive tackles in the National Football League now pay special attention to number 91!

In two short years, he has already collected 13.5 sacks in just 23 career games. After nine games this season, he leads the AFC with 9.5 and is second only to Green Bay’s Clay Matthews, who has 11.5.

His unique blend of speed, agility and his ability to play against the run has made Wake into a complete defensive player! If Cameron can continue to be relentless off the edge, he might be taking another trip out west, not to Oakland, but to Hawai’i in February!

Cameron Wake has 9.5 sacks through 10 games. How many do you think he finishes the season with?
