The Dolphins were back at practice after a couple days off today, looking forward and getting ready for Sunday’s road test at Baltimore. After practice, head coach Tony Sparano met with the media to discuss some of the things that went right against the Bengals as well as the upcoming game against the Ravens. Of course, outside of football, there was big news in the locker room, with CB Nolan Carroll’s mother, Jennifer, becoming the new Lieutenant Governor-elect in the state of Florida. Sparano smiled when this was brought up and said that he “congratulates her tremendously” and that he considers his players’ families to be the families of the team. As for football…
-Sparano would not comment on any waiver claim situations and as it turns out, neither Randy Moss nor Shawne Merriman became a Miami Dolphin today.
-Sparano said that once Ray Lewis retires he would love to sit in a film room with him and look at game tape through his eyes. He compared Lewis to Zach Thomas in this sense.
-On Brian Hartline’s 30-yard run against the Bengals, Sparano mentioned that Ricky Williams had a huge block on the Cincinnati free safety, putting him on the ground, which was a huge part of the success of the play.
-Baltimore’s receiving corps is totally different than when the teams last met, in the 2008 playoffs. Sparano compared Anquan Boldin to Brandon Marshall, saying that they are both physical receivers who do very well after the catch. He also said that Derrick Mason has always been a “pain the neck” when the teams have played.
-As for the Ravens defense, Sparano brought up the names of Haloti Ngata and Jarret Johnson as guys who are playing really well. He also acknowledged Lewis and Ed Reed as people to obviously be aware of.
