From the Podium 11/5/10

[1]For the final time before Sunday’s game against the Ravens, Dolphins coach Tony Sparano met with the media to discuss the battle in Baltimore. It was, to be honest, one of the more entertaining press conferences of the season and featured some very interesting conversation, including an anecdote about Bill Parcells hitting Sparano with a gameplan in Dallas and telling him to cover his mouth while calling plays. Sparano even did an above-average impersonation of his former boss. I was impressed. Other notes:

-The praise just kept coming for kicker Dan Carpenter. Sparano has probably never talked this much about a kicker in his life. Good thing it’s a positive story.

-When discussing Ravens safety Ed Reed, Sparano said he is as “unconventional as it gets” and described a play he watched this morning where Reed came from one side of the field to the other in a full sprint while cutting in front of the other safety to try and make an interception.

-When discussing communication with his coaches on headset during the game (which sounded like it is pretty much the most hectic thing ever), Sparano said ¬†first and ¬†foremost he doesn’t want to be a distraction to the playcallers.

-Talking about the 4-0 record away from Sun Life Stadium, Sparano said that his team hadn’t really done anything special yet and reminded everyone that there once was a team who played down here that won all of their road games. And home games, too.

UPDATE: Here are some video highlights to see the coach talk about what he can take from the Bills’ success against the Ravens two weeks ago and if he thinks QB Chad Henne can win a game on his own:
