With the Dolphins back at practice today getting ready for Sunday’s home game against the Bills, coach Tony Sparano met with the media to discuss all things Dolphins. When asked about the decision to end RT Vernon Carey’s season by placing him on injured reserve, Sparano said it was not an easy decision. He also said that they are now in a “waiting period” as far as seeing what the next move is for Carey (surgery, rehab, etc). Other notes…
-With John Jerry getting some first team reps at right guard today, Sparano was asked if there is an open competition with him and Pat McQuistan, who started against the Jets. Sparano indicated that more than anything else, that week’s game plan would determine who got the start, because they each have different strengths.
-Sparano had high praise for Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and among other things said that you can see the difference in the Bills with him on the field. He said that Fitzpatrick’s leadership skills are a big part of that. He also noted the way he was spreading the ball around.
UPDATE: Here is some video of Sparano talking about new WR Kevin Curtis, as well as the trouble that the Bills have stopping the run:
