From the Podium 12/16/10

[1]After practice today, Dolphins coach Tony Sparano had a relatively quick interaction with the assembled media. Early on, Sparano was asked about Mike Nolan and his scheme. The fact is that last year, as defensive coordinator in Denver, Nolan had LB Elvis Dumervil, who lead the NFL in sacks. This year, through 14 weeks, Nolan has LB Cameron Wake, who is leading the NFL in sacks. Sparano said that Nolan’s scheme puts players in position to make plays and that he’s had a couple of really good players. Earlier in the day, Nolan said as much, refusing to take credit for the success of those players, and giving them the credit. Other notes…

-When asked if there were still some unveiled parts of the offense and defense with three games to go, Sparano said that there were some wrinkles. He didn’t seem to indicate they were being “held back” as a surprise down the stretch, though, and that it was more about not having the opportunities to fit them in.

-Talking about the performance of the special teams unit, Sparano said he has been pleased, though obviously things are not perfect. He pointed out that they nearly had a punt blocked; that they’ve almost blocked one, but didn’t; that they haven’t returned a kick all the way; and that Jacoby Ford of the Raiders did. That said, he felt a big part of the reason the unit is playing better is that a bunch of the rookies, guys like Austin Spitler, aren’t really playing like rookies anymore.

UPDATE: Here is video of Sparano talking about gameplanning for the Bills and about the good behavior of left guard Richie Incognito:
