After practice today, Dolphins coach Tony Sparano met with the media to continue to discuss Sunday’s game at the Jets. There were several questions about the team’s much publicized Friday night Broadway outing, which Sparano seems to be looking forward to. He explained that the decision had been made quite some time ago to take the team up a day early and that when owner Steve Ross heard about those plans, he offered to take the team to the show. Not surprisingly, Sparano seemed most happy about getting to be around his team a little bit more than he usually would. Other notes…
-Sparano joked that he’s been giving rookie Nolan Carroll a little bit of a hard time about getting tackled three times by the kicker and that he definitely sees Carroll getting closer and closer to breaking the big return.
-With Brandon Marshall absent last week against the Browns, Sparano said that the main thing for the other wide receivers was role re-adjustment. He mentioned Marlon Moore in particular.
-With Vernon Carey (knee) out of practice again today, Sparano said that there are plans in motion to cover for him at right tackle on Sunday if necessary.
UPDATE: Here are video highlights of the coach talking about Chad Pennington’s upcoming shoulder surgery as well as Phillip Merling’s comeback:
