Jim Mandich: Chad Henne Spectacular in Oakland

Yesterday afternoon in Oakland, quarterback Chad Henne returned to the starting lineup after a couple of very up-and-down weeks with the Dolphins. Not only did he collect his third 300-yard passing game of the 2010 season, but Henne looked about as good as he has all year long. Fellow Wolverine Jim Mandich was certainly impressed by what Henne was able to do and shares his thoughts on Henne’s big day in the Black Hole…

Just think about the rollercoaster that Chad Henne has been for the last couple of weeks: he was benched for Chad Pennington, only to be inserted into the Tennessee game after only two plays. He played a very clean game against the Titans before suffering a knee injury which kept him out of the Bears game. There was a question as to whether he would even play against the Raiders.

He got the start in Oakland and did not disappoint. Chad started out red-hot, then hit a little rocky spot after throwing an interception, but then I saw him regain his equanimity. He showed a ton of poise in this hostile environment and distributed the ball well amongst a receiver corps that was without Brandon Marshall.

I thought the most brilliant throw of the day came in the 4th quarter on a key 3rd down where he lobbed one into Davone Bess down the sideline for a 29-yard gain that would set up Dan Carpenter’s fourth field goal, which gave the Dolphins a two score lead that they would never look back from. That throw typified the type of marvelous performance that Henne had against the Raiders.
