What do you know about the 2011 Buffalo Bills? Despite a 5-4 record, many football fans haven’t seen a whole lot of the Bills this year with the team not appearing on any primetime games. For a quick scouting report on the Bills, take a look at the comments from the Dolphins this week as the team prepares for the first of two meetings this season with their AFC East rivals.
On The 5-4 Buffalo Bills as a whole
Kevin Burnett: (On the Bills losing big last week to Dallas, do you guys look at that or does that not get much attention?) “That’s yesterday. So, this team is going to come out ready to play. We can’t forget this team earlier in the season was world-beaters. They haven’t changed overnight! I don’t think that can be forgotten. Like I said, you’re looking at the #1 rusher in the NFL and a guy who can get the ball out of his hands, he just got paid (sixty-five million dollars) or something like that. You’re not talking about the bottom of the barrel here; this is a good football team.”
Karlos Dansby: (on Buffalo starting the season hot and recently cooling off) “They’re still playing well if you ask me. They still make plays all over the field, as I watched filmed earlier (this week). Those guys make a lot of plays; just recently they have been behind the eight ball…They got a lot of talent over there, we’re going to have to play our ‘A’ game on defense in order to slow down that offensive machine they have.”
Jason Taylor- On if playing a divisional game adds more)- “You’ve always got to win your divisional games. Regardless of where you play them, when you play them they’re always important games. We get a chance…you get two teams that are very familiar with one another because you see each other all the time. You watch tape of your previous opponent and you see Buffalo on the tape or you see the Jets on the tape or New England. You feel very familiar with them and vice versa they know us pretty well too. That’s division football in the NFL. Always close hard fought games and usually get pretty nasty and they’re very important.”
Coach Sparano (On how important it is to disrupt Ryan Fitzpatrick’s rhythm) – “It’s important. You got to try to disrupt his rhythm. This guy can get you. He’s gotten on streaks against us before where he rattles off a bunch in a row. You don’t want to try to let him do that certainly. That’s no different than any other good quarterback. This guy is completing almost 66 percent of his passes right now. He’s a pretty good quarterback in our league.”
On Buffalo RB Fred Jackson
Reggie Bush- (On Fred Jackson) – “He’s playing great. He’s a guy I like to watch run. I sometimes study how he runs the ball and look at him. He’s definitely a play maker. He’s a guy you always have to be aware of when he’s on the football field. He’s a great player. I think rightfully so he’s getting accolades.”
Cam Wake- (On Jackson & Buffalo’s run game) “They’re definitely doing well running the ball. As a linebacker I like physical-style play, it’s something I love. They’re running the ball well, and it’s the quarterback, they’re protecting him. He’s getting the ball out of his hands quickly, getting it to guys, making plays, and they’re playing confidently. You know, when you have a team like that, you just got to go out there and stay on top of your game individually and as a team so we have success on Sunday.”
Coach Sparano: (On what makes Fred Jackson so affective)- “I think he’s got tremendous vision, I really do. I spent the morning this morning honestly just watching him. Some of the runs that the guy makes vision, foot quickness in the hole and how he gets in and out of things. But this guy really he can wind it all the way back. When it should be back he can stick it front side and make a big play. You really got to be disciplined with him because you want your guys to get to the ball and he’s going opposite of everything. He’s defying a lot of the rules in there and makes big plays doing it. I really think this guy is a good player. Today I watched him a few times turn around and there was some blitzes that the Cowboys were bringing at him and he just turned around. He was knocking those guys, stepping up in there and really blocking them well. He’s a guy that obviously knows that there’s more than just running the football to his job description. I have a lot of respect for this guy. I always have even when they had Marshawn (Lynch) there and of course they draft C.J. (Spiller). Those are all good players but this guy for whatever reason to me was always a guy that you had to pay a lot of attention to.”
On Buffalo’s Defense
Brandon Marshall- (On if he is excited about the Bills lack of pass rush) – “What I saw they don’t have a bunch of sacks but they get pressure on the quarterback. They haven’t finished or sealed the deal but they play hard, that front seven. They just haven’t gotten the quarterback on the ground but they definitely put pressure on the quarterback.”
