Game Preview: Dolphins at Chiefs, 11/6/11

Week 9

The Dolphins hit the road for the fifth time in their last six games, as they travel to take on the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. The 0-7 Dolphins are also looking to cool off the red-hot Chiefs (4-3), who have won four straight after beginning their season 0-3.

The Fins are coming off another tough and close loss (20-17 at the Giants), while KC spent their short week enjoying what seemed like a charmed 23-20 victory over the Chargers on Monday Night Football.

These two teams have gotten together plenty over the years and lately the Dolphins have dominated the series, winning seven of the last nine dating back to 1993. The last time they met was especially memorable, as the Dolphins picked up a late-season 38-31 win at Arrowhead to keep their chances alive for the division title they’d eventually win in 2008. That game was also the coldest game in Dolphins history (10 degrees at kickoff, with a wind chill of -12 degrees). Of course these two teams have had many, many memorable match-ups over the years, which was the subject of this week’s LIST.

As for the here and now, you can go Behind Enemy Lines with Chiefs’ coach Todd Haley by listening in to his media conference call this week. Also, we spoke with Kevin Harlan of CBS, who will be broadcasting the game on Sunday.

Meanwhile, one of the big questions heading into the game is how healthy the Dolphins will be. Once again, there are several key players listed on the injury report for Miami, which will certainly be a major storyline. Also, John Congemi writes up his keys to the game, which give you an idea of what the Dolphins will need to do if they want to leave the Midwest with their first win of the season.

Finally, here’s a video preview of the game, with Keith Sims and I breaking down this Week 9 match-up:
