Marino Shares Views on Aaron Rodgers and previews AFC East Showdown with Bills

In his weekly podcast for Dolphins.com, former Dolphins QB Dan Marino provided his thoughts about Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers potentially breaking his single-season passing yards record as well as the Packers’ early season dominance.
“(The Packers) are just flat-out better than everyone else and (Rodgers) is playing better than any quarterback that has played in the league for a long time,” said Marino. “At the level he’s playing right now, the touchdown passes he’s thrown; he’s on pace to maybe beat that record (Tom Brady’s 50 TD passes in 2007). My (5,084 single-season passing yards) record, it looks like he may be getting that. The fact that the team plays so efficiently and has a pretty darn good defense, it’s going be tough to outscore them no matter what the situation is. I give the teams a chance to beat them (only) if they have the ability is to get after the quarterback and cause turnovers.”
In addition to the Rodgers talk, Jesse Agler and John Congemi spoke with the Pro-Football Hall of Famer about the Dolphins’ second straight win, several stand-out players and this Sunday’s matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
Question: Thoughts about WR Davone Bess, TE Anthony Fasano and the passing game working the middle of the field successfully against Washington….
Dan Marino: “I think Matt Moore is getting a little more comfortable, and you do have to have those guys in between the hashes that can take care of business. I remember O.J. McDuffie doing that so well for us for so many years and Davone Bess has been a guy that has done that for the Dolphins, he had a good game. Fasano, when you get up the seam routes, the turn routes, the things where you got to sit down in zone coverage- they’re all things that you got to have a tight end that’s capable of doing that and making plays. That takes a lot of pressure off the guys outside and helps the quarterback, it helps everything.”
Question: Defense hasn’t allowed a touchdown in the last two games….
Dan Marino: “They do look a little better defensively… they’re getting turnovers, they’re getting after the quarterback and they got to just continue to grow on that especially this week against Buffalo. When people have gotten to (Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick), he’s made some mistakes. They’ve struggled offensively the past few weeks. So this will be a big test for the Dolphins, and one that I think they can handle defensively.”
Question: If you are the Dolphins, are you happy to see the Bills reeling in a little bit? They are certainly not as hot as in the beginning of the season….
Dan Marino: “Well, it’s a divisional game, they are not as hot and I think the teams have figured out what they were doing. Looks like they’re going after (Fitzpatrick) a little more…that’s kind of disrupted Fitzpatrick in his timing, Fred Jackson was a big (receiving threat) earlier in the year, he’s not doing that as much. It’s dangerous for the Dolphins because for Buffalo to stay in (the playoff race) they desperately need this win so they don’t drop to .500, and to keep pace with the Jets and New England so it’s a huge game for them.. . Miami is going to have their work cut out. ”
