Fantasy: Final Sunday Injury Report

[1]Fantasy Football Week 1 Sunday Updates By James Morris

Here it is, Dolphins fans, your final fantasy injury report for week 1 of the NFL season. Leagues let you change line-ups up until a few minutes before kickoff, so check back each week for all the injury news and notes before setting your final lineup.

Andre Roberts – WR Cardinals: Roberts returned to a full practice of Friday and will start against the Seahawks. While Roberts is capable of filling a WR4/flex role for fantasy teams, he is someone to avoid this weekend against a tough Seahawks pass defense.

Beanie Wells – RB Cardinals:  Wells was a late addition to the Cardinals injury report with a hamstring injury. Wells says he will play and I see no reason for him not to. The problem with Wells is the Seahawks defense is underrated and I would bench anyone on the Cardinals not named Larry Fitzgerald.

Stevie Johnson – WR Bills: Johnson is still dealing with a groin injury that required off-season surgery, and he was frequently listed as questionable last season with the same injury. QB Ryan Fitzpatrick said “he’ll be fine”, but I have him as just a WR3 against the Jets and Darrelle Revis.

Jonathan Stewart – RB Panthers: Stewart suffered an ankle sprain that is of the lateral variety, which means it is not the dreaded “high ankle sprain.” All indications are that he is unlikely to play, and I would bench him even if he does make it on the field for some reason.

Trent Richardson – RB Browns: Richard is going to start against the Eagles today and should see between 15-20 carries. The Eagles defensive line should provide a few lanes for him to run through, but the Browns passing attack should allow the Eagles to key in on stopping the run. He is a mid-range flex option this week.

Arian Foster – RB Texans: Foster is still dealing with that dodgy knee that has made him miss time in the past. I hear he will play against the Dolphins, so I wouldn’t have a problem sticking your #1 overall pick in the line-up. Ben Tate could still have some flex value since Foster isn’t 100 percent healthy.

Owen Daniels – TE Texans: Daniels is dealing with an “illness”, but he returned to a full practice on Friday and will play today. He is nothing more than a TE2, and not someone likely to be on many fantasy rosters this season.

Austin Collie – WR Colts: Collie is one concussion away from retirement, but all indications are that he will play today. Keep in mind that he still has to get medical clearance to play, but if he does he should be a WR3.

Brian Hartline – WR Dolphins: The team’s top speed receiveris going to be on the field today, and is worth owning in PPR leagues. He is expected to come off the bench behind Devone Bess and Legedu Naanee, so keep him on your bench until his role increases.

Dustin Keller – TE Jets: Keller is another victim of early season hamstring problems, but coach Rex Ryan confirmed Friday that he expects Keller to play against the Bills. Keller is a mid-level TE2 and shouldn’t be owned for now except in deep leagues.

Adrian Peterson – RB Vikings: The Vikings are said to be looking at giving AP 10-15 carries against the Panthers today. Granted, he has to get past warm-ups to play, but the plan is to have him in the game. If Peterson gets 10-15 carries, that will leave Toby Gerhart with 10-15 of his own, and this is shaping up to be a fantasy situation to avoid.
Denarius Moore – WR Raiders: Moore too has a bad hamstring, but he returned to limited practice on Friday and made some “dazzling” plays. I have a gut feeling that he plays, but it is better to leave him on the bench until he is getting starter targets.

Rashard Mendenhall – RB Steelers: Mendenhall had a “full” practice on Friday, but I am hearing that his possible return to the field in week 1 is nothing more than gamesmanship by the Steelers coaching staff. The Steelers own beat writers say they don’t expect him to be on the field until the end of September, so I see no reason to get your hopes up.

Ryan Mathews – RB Chargers: Mathews is out this weekend, but he is aiming for a return in week 2. Those looking for a RB sleeper could do much worse than Ronnie Brown as the Chargers have little else in the way of reliable RBs.

Marshawn Lynch – RB Seahawks: I hear that Lynch is going to play today, so go ahead and stick him in your line-ups. His carries are likely to be somewhat limited, but I still have him ranked as a low-end RB1.
