In His Own Words: Ryan Tannehill

[1]On Thursday, following the Dolphins’ final mini-camp practice, Ryan Tannehill spoke about the progress he’s made during his preparation for the season. [2]Here is what he had to say:

On his progress

“I definitely feel like I’ve gotten better. That’s the whole goal of the offseason. You want to get better every day. You want to learn from your mistakes. Am I making mistakes? Yes. But I think I am learning from them. I am trying to minimize my mistakes and not make the same mistakes twice. That’s the great thing about practice and offseason, you get to go onto the next day and get better. I think we have done that, I think I have done that and I’m excited about where we are at.”

On whether QB competition has started

“As long as you are putting film on tape. (The) coaches are watching, and I think it’s started. Is it something that is on our minds every day? I don’t think so. I think we are going out trying to be the leader of the team, trying to make plays and not make mistakes. That’s our philosophy in the quarterback room, to go out and make the team better and take it one day at a time.”

On what he has learned about the NFL

“It is a faster game. The guys are moving around faster and the plays develop faster. It is just something you have to get comfortable with, something that comes with a little bit of time. I feel like I am getting adjusted to it. It has been a little bit of a process over the offseason, but I get more adjusted to it every day.”

On making faster decisions

“I would not say you are focused on making faster decisions. The play happens faster so you just got to make a faster decision. You don’t really think about it, it just happens that way.”

On making mistakes

“I threw an interception at the end of practice; you never like to see that. Reggie (Bush) and I were not on the same page. At the end of the day, you cannot turn the ball over as a quarterback. We were doing a two-minute drill and you want to practice like it’s a game situation. You never want to turn the ball over in that situation. I think I learned from it and am going to move on. As far as the rest of the practice, it was great to get a lot of one reps.”

On practicing with the first team

“It was the first day I really got to get in for an extended period of time with the ones. The more the day went on, the more comfortable I felt and the more I moved the ball.”

On his plans during his time off

“Take a few days to just relax a bit and let the body freshen up a bit. Then get back at it and work on the fundamentals, throwing the ball, watching film to get ready for the season and going back and watching some of these practices. You are still learning from your mistakes, still having the plays flash in front of you. You are still seeing everything, so it’s not something you’re putting down for five weeks and picking it up again in late July.”
