Receivers Sound Off On New Offense

[1]With the Dolphins shifting towards a quick passing offense, the team’s wide receiving corps should have more opportunities to shine.

John Congemi caught up with two of the beneficiaries, Brian Hartline [2] and Marlon Moore [3], to get their initial reactions to the new coaching staff and the Dolphins’ new West Coast offense.

Moore has already noticed that the returning players have had to make a significant adjustment in the new offense.

“Only thing I can say about that is up tempo, up tempo, up tempo,” Moore said. “We get the ball going, and we keep running. We’re going to outrun everybody.”

Hartline, too, notices that the offense has been taken into a different gear. But for Joe Philbin’s offense to be successful, it isn’t just about maintaining a breakneck pace. Each player needs to be on the same page to create a strong sense of anticipation.

“There’s a lot of timing based in this offense,” said Hartline, who is entering his fourth season. “Really, that’s what the NFL is going to. Guys are so fast and guys are so smart that you kind of have to see it before it happens. The timing aspect gives us that kind of ability.”

In their little exposure to the coaching staff, Hartline has noticed that there seems to be a purpose for everything the staff does. As far as the new staff’s expectations, there should be no fear of the unknown for the players.

“Very detailed. Very precise on what they want and what they’re looking for,” Hartline said. “It definitely adds to the ability to get excited about the offense. They know what they want; you know what you need to give them. It adds for efficiency.”

A change to the West Coast offense is a welcomed one for Moore, who played in a similar system at Fresno St. His familiarity with the offensive could help the third-year receiver break out.

“It’s different terminology, same routes,” Moore said. “That’s the best thing about it. I’m excited to be in this offense and to be a member of the Miami Dolphins this year.”
