Tannehill Looking Strong In Early Training Camp Action
By on July 31, 2012 at 5:33 pm

Once Ryan Tannehill signed his contract and arrived at training camp, full focus could be diverted back to his on-field progression.

Specifically, how would the two-day absence affect his standing in the quarterback rotation?

Even if expectations were tempered a bit, nonetheless his performance in team drills would be heavily scrutinized.

The consensus? So far, so good.

Since he’s returned, Tannehill has split reps with David Garrard, Matt Moore and Pat Devlin, almost exclusively facing a mix of defensive reserves.

In spite of this, The Palm Beach Post’s Ben Volin writes, “it’s been hard not to notice how good Tannehill has looked throwing the football, showing good velocity, accuracy and anticipation.”

On Sunday morning’s practice–Tannehill’s first-ever NFL training camp practice–the Dolphins rookie, by Joe Philbin’s count, completed 40 of 53 “competitive” snaps.

To simulate red-zone scoring opportunities, Dolphins coaches shortened the field during Monday morning’s team drills, throwing some different pressure looks at the offense. While it may have affected his performance–his completion rate was certainly lower–the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson characterized his second practice as “pretty good.”

The only opinion that matters, of course, is Philbin’s. And after Monday morning’s practice, he, too, said he’s been pleased with where the first-round pick is at this stage.

“He threw the ball well (on Sunday),” Philbin said. “Today, we missed a couple plays early. We had a couple opportunities for big plays we didn’t convert on. For a rookie quarterback, he’s doing very well.”

The Dolphins players return to the practice field on Wednesday to kick off a second series of practices in advance of Saturday’s scrimmage at Sun Life Stadium.

Tannehill Looking Strong, ya OK

That’s funny, what ells could you say, he doesn’t look good, he’s not sharp. I’m not surprised you didn’t say “he has the offense down packed”.

Your just to funny.
