3 Observations From Friday’s Jaguars Game
By on August 10, 2013 at 10:55 am

Ryan JAXThe Dolphins were able to clean up some things in Jacksonville, beating the Jaguars 27-3 in their second preseason game on Friday night.

After a few empty drives, Ryan Tannehill was able to lead the offense down the field on an 80-yard scoring drive, capping it off with a nice TD pass to tight end Dustin Keller.

Here are three of my takeaways from the Dolphins’ 27-3 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars:

1) Team Speed On Defense — The first-team defense only played three series, but you could see the speed and the attacking style of defense that defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle expects in 2013. It all starts up front with defensive end Cam Wake, setting the table for players like middle linebacker Dannell Ellerbe and outside linebacker Philip Wheeler, two of the team’s offseason additions. The flexibility in this defense is limitless and it will give opposing offensive coordinators sleepless nights because of the different types of looks that it can give you.

2) Turnover Battle Better — Although Matt Moore threw an interception in the second quarter, it was nice to see the defensive secondary get its hands on the football for a few takeaways. Nolan Carroll caught a tipped pass for the first interception of the evening. That was followed up by an acrobatic pick from rookie Will Davis, who was able to carry over a recent string of success in practice to a game setting.

3) Let the Competition Begin — It was only matter of time before Caleb Sturgis’ leg strength would be on display. Making a 58 yarder in the third quarter signaled that the kicking competition is officially on and the ball is now in Dan Carpenter’s court. Sturgis also hit a 36-yard kick and was consistently kicking the ball through back of the end zone on kickoffs.
