Clabo Excited To Face Former Team

J [1]On Sunday, two members of the Miami Dolphins will be facing their former teammates for the first time. Brent Grimes has taken the approach that it’s just another game, but Tyson Clabo was a little more candid on The Finsiders on Tuesday afternoon [2].

“Of course,” Clabo said when asked if he was excited. “I have a lot of friends on that team. I was there for a really long time—eight seasons is a long time to be in one place. So of course I’m excited and it should be fun.”

Clabo, an offensive tackle, played an integral role in Atlanta’s run to the NFC Championship last season. Now with the Dolphins, Clabo brings years of experience from his time in Atlanta on a team that won more than its fair share of football games.

Miami is off to a quick start, opening 2-0, with hope of making a statement against Clabo’s old ball club this weekend. Clabo attributes the Dolphins’ early success to focus and experience.

“I think we’re focused right now,” he said. “I think we’re confident, but I think that we have enough experience on our team to realize that you can’t just roll your helmet out there, because you’re going to get beat if you don’t show up ready to play.

“And I think that our opponent this week is a pretty good football team. And I think that everybody knows if we don’t show up ready to play, they could put a hurting on us pretty quick.”

As far as insight to what Atlanta is all about, Clabo had nothing but praise for the Falcons, but added he’s confident his new teammates have what it takes to come out with a win on Sunday.

“If you’re not where you need to be, they’re going to make you pay,” he said. “There’s no doubt. And I’m confident that our defense understands that and they’re going to do what they have to do. Fortunately, for me, that’s not my problem. I have a whole different set of problems. Defensively, they’re very talented. I’m very familiar with a lot of those guys—I practiced against them for a long time.

“I know the challenge that’s ahead of us and it’s big. They’re good and I think we’re up to the challenge. We just have to play well and protect the football and just not hurt ourselves with penalties and stuff like that. And at the end of the game, I think we’re going to be in a position to have the opportunity to win.”
