Tannehill Looking Confident And Precise
By on June 11, 2013 at 3:47 pm

Tannehill MiniDay one of Dolphins mini camp was fast-paced and productive for the majority of practice. The team started the workout inside the bubble and then continued the up-tempo execution on the grass fields.

Quarterback Ryan Tannehill looked sharp throughout the entire workout, throwing with accuracy and confidence and got everyone involved. Here are some of the things that I took notice of today.

1) Offense Working Fast and Executing – Offensive coordinator Mike Sherman was pleased about the way the offense executed and how decisive Tannehill looked today. I noticed on multiple plays how Tannehill either changed the protection, or let his eyes take him to the second or third read in the passing game. He had command locating the football in tight windows and seemed to have a better feel for his new teammates at wide receiver and tight end. The most important thing to me is Ryan looks comfortable and in charge of this offense, and that’s where your quarterback needs to be to have success.

2) Competition Growing at Wide Receiver – As a group, this position is getting better and more plays are being made on a consistent basis. Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline and Brandon Gibson were solid and made receptions behind defenders today. Some of the others that are challenging for playing time stepped up as well! Jasper Collins showed terrific quickness getting in and out of routes and Jeff Fuller made some aggressive plays on the football. Rishard Matthews had some ups and downs but overall still looks like a player that will be around come September.

3) Offensive Line Rotation – There seems to be a pattern developing up front for the Dolphins and that’s a good thing! The new look offensive line has Jonathan Martin at LT, Richie Incognito at LG, Mike Pouncey at C, John Jerry at RG and Tyson Clabo at RT. The player that has the most to learn so far up front is Nate Garner. Throughout OTA’s and the first day of mini-camp, Garner has lined up at every position along the offensive line. His versatility and experience gives this unit much needed depth along the front five and the flexibility to play anywhere in a emergency.

Other news and notes:

- Tight end Dustin Keller didn’t participate in practice today.

- Offensive lineman Lance Louis and defensive back Jamar Taylor worked out on the side of the field with the training staff. Both players are moving well and should be ready for training camp in July.

- Keller’s absence gave players like Charles Clay, Dion Sims and Kyle Miller more repetitions and all took advantage by catching the football consistently. This will definitely be a position to watch during camp.

- Defensive tackle Randy Starks returned to camp today but only participated in the walk-through and individual portions of practice.

- Cornerback Will Davis played fast and had nice anticipation on the football and Brent Grimes could be the biggest off-season steal in the entire NFL!
