Coyle: I Wouldn’t Trade Cam Wake For Anybody
By on July 15, 2013 at 5:34 pm

Wake 3Though his production has put him in the league’s upper class, to fully appreciate Cam Wake, like any other great player, it’s best to watch him up close on a consistent basis as his career unfolds.

The numbers are great, yes, but it’s hard to really quantify his impact. He’s the defense’s voice — always calm, in control, ready to lead, either on the practice field or in game situations.

Kevin Coyle, the Dolphins defensive coordinator, is preparing for his second training camp with the team’s Pro Bowl defensive end, and he has been as advertised, if not more.

“I wouldn’t trade Cam Wake for anybody in our league,” said Coyle, on Dolphins All-Access: Training Camp Preview.

The team’s 2012 MVP, Wake finished his fourth NFL season with 15 sacks, bringing his career total to 43. What impresses Coyle is that, despite his previous achievements and veteran standing, it all starts on the practice field; he always shows up ready to go.

“He’s a joy to coach,” Coyle said. “He works at it mentally, he’s strong against the run, dynamic pass rusher, intelligent football player, can cover guys when we do put him into coverage. He’s a guy that can run with backs, tight ends, shoot, he can run with some receivers out there.

“He’s a dynamic player, and we’re so fortunate to have him.”
