Fabiano: Lamar Miller Could Be Major Fantasy Sleeper

There are new weapons, yes, but NFL.com’s Michael Fabiano recently told The Finsiders that the Dolphins’ fantasy player to watch was already on the roster last year.
“If he gets 60-65 percent of the carries, I think Lamar Miller could be a major fantasy sleeper,” Fabiano said. “Another thing he’s got going for him: he has the easiest schedule among running backs based on fantasy points from last year. There are some really favorable matchups that the Dolphins are going to have.”
Rosters are not fully composed yet, of course, so some of the weaker 2012 run defenses could tighten up this season. But, going into this year, Fabiano devised a formula to see which players had favorable fantasy schedules, using a point system. The higher the total, the easier the schedule for a fantasy running back.
“Miller has the highest point total by almost a full point,” Fabiano said. “He’s got great games next season coming up. A very attractive slate. Obviously they’re playing some of these AFC East teams, with the Bills being one of the teams that was really bad against the run last year. The Jets were bad against the run last year. They’re playing the Browns who are bad against the run, the Saints, the Colts.”
The team may yet add a running back before the draft — most likely as a mid-to-late round pick — though, in the absence of Reggie Bush, Miller should get a good shot at hitting Fabiano’s stated benchmark.
The Dolphins didn’t show much interest in re-signing Bush, their starting running back for the prior two seasons, with the seven-year veteran eventually signing a deal in Detroit. If this seems like an indictment, especially to a national populace familiar with Bush, it shouldn’t. The focus from Dolphins personnel, including General Manager Jeff Ireland, even before free agency was on what Miller could bring to the Dolphins offense.
“Part of the reason they let (Bush) go is they like Lamar Miller,” Fabiano said. “Miami of Florida running backs have a pretty good track record in the National Football League.”
