Free Agency Preview: Offensive Line
Posted By The Finsiders On February 26, 2013 @ 12:02 pm In Football | No Comments
The free agency period for the 2013 season begins at 4:00pm on Tuesday, March 12.
Here is a list of select Offensive Linemen who currently have the opportunity to be unrestricted free agents at that time. These players can re-sign with their current teams at any time and can begin to negotiate with other teams beginning on March 9th.
Branden Albert/T/Chiefs (6’5, 316): A first round pick in 2008, Albert has played his entire career in Kansas City. He has once started all 16 games (2011) but started just 11 in 2012 because of a back injury. A guard in college, he started 15 games at left tackle as a rookie and has also seen some time at guard during his time in KC. UPDATE: The Chiefs placed the franchise tag on Albert
Will Beatty/T/Giants (6’6, 319): A second round pick out of UConn in 2009, Beatty spent most of his first two years in the league as a special teamer and situational “extra” TE. In 2011 and ’12, he started 25 total games and was the Giants’ main option at left tackle. His 2011 season was cut short, though, when he suffered a detached retina. In ’12, he was eased back into the lineup before resuming his role as a starter for New York. UPDATE: Beatty will be returning to New York.
Gosder Cherilus/T/Lions (6’7. 325): The 28-year old native of Haiti was the 17th overall pick in the 2008 Draft out of Boston College and as a rookie played in all 16 games (with 13 starts) for the Lions. Since then, he has started all but one game that he has played, including all 16 games this past season.
Ryan Clady/T/Broncos (6’6, 315): A much-discussed option for Denver’s franchise tag, Clady was the Broncos’ first round pick in the 2008 Draft. In his five NFL seasons, Clady has started every single one of the 80 regular season games that the Broncos have played. A three-time Pro Bowler (2009, 2011, 2012), Clady has also been named All Pro three times in his young career (2008, 2009, 2012). *The Broncos placed their franchise tag designation on Clady
Jake Long/T/Dolphins (6’7, 319): The number-one overall pick in the 2008 Draft, Long was named to the Pro Bowl in four of his first five NFL seasons. Long started all 16 games at left tackle for the Fins in 2008, 2009 and 2010 before injuries limited him a bit the last two years. In 2011, he missed two of the last three games and in 2012, his season ended with four games to go.
Sebastian Vollmer/T/Patriots (6’8, 320): A second round pick out of Houston in 2009, the German-born Vollmer didn’t pick up American football until he was 14 years old. He was taken 58th overall in the Draft despite the fact that he was not invited to the Combine and in four seasons in New England, he has played in 51 games (with 44 starts).
Andy Levitre/G/Bills (6’2, 305): A second round pick out of Oregon St. in 2009, Levitre was named to the All-Rookie team that year and has started all 16 games for the Bills in each of his first four seasons in the NFL. A tackle for the Beavers, he has smoothly transitioned to guard at the next level.
Brandon Moore/G/Jets (6’3, 305): Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2002, Moore spent time on the practice squad and in NFL Europe before finally breaking through with the Jets in 2004. He has started every game for them in each of the last eight seasons and in his 10-year career, he has started 142 games. Moore was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in 2011.
