Gibson Finding His Groove

080113-gibson660For Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Gibson, the bye week is all about getting back to the basics. After getting off to a hot start at 3-0, Miami has cooled down a bit with two straight losses.

“I think a lot of us are going to focus on fundamentals,” Gibson said in an interview with The Finsiders earlier this week. “Just the little things that get overlooked and the details that we have to be perfect on.

“We shoot ourselves in the foot more than anything. We want to make sure we’re in the right spots.”

Gibson, who’s in his first year with the Dolphins, believes Miami’s offense is on the right track.

“I think it’s a work in progress,” he said. “We have times where we look great, we have times where we look good, sometimes we look bad and sometimes we look ugly. And I think that with time, we’ll get better at each and every phase of our offense.”

The receiver went as far as to compare the Dolphins’ newly constructed offense with that of the Miami Heat’s big three of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh when they were assembled back in 2010.

“There’s going to be chemistry that’s going to be developed,” Gibson said.

That chemistry can be seen each Sunday on the football field, as Tannehill and the receivers continue to work and get more comfortable with one another. For the first time in a while, Miami looks to be able to score in the 20’s on any given Sunday.

As for Gibson himself, he feels he has a ways to go to reach his potential, despite being on pace to surpass his career high for catches in a season.

“I’m getting better,” he said. “There’s still more things that I want to get better at, but I feel like I’m making progress and that’s a start.

“I try not to worry about catches too much. Sometimes I start a game with one catch and don’t get the ball until the fourth quarter, sometimes I get four catches in the first half—it just doesn’t really matter to me. A lot of it depends on the rotation of the safeties in coverage, but I just want to make sure I’m in the right spot.”
