Instant Analysis: Tight End Dustin Keller

Posted By John Congemi On March 15, 2013 @ 3:37 pm In Football | No Comments

[1]The Dolphins have come to terms with former New York Jets tight end Dustin Keller. Keller, 28, closes the gap on a position of need when former Dolphins tight end Anthony Fasano signed a multi-year deal earlier in the week with Kansas City. Last year’s numbers for Keller weren’t indicative of the type of offensive weapon he can be when healthy (28 receptions for 317 yards, and two touchdowns). He led the Jets in receptions in 2010 (55) and 2011 (65) and can vertically stretch a defense down the middle of the football field.

Signing Keller continues to add pieces to the offensive puzzle and brings another play maker to South Florida for second year quarterback Ryan Tannehill. He is one of the best pass-catching tight ends in the NFL, and I’m sure that the Dolphins feel good about what Keller skill set means to this offense. Before last season, Keller played in 70 straight games for the Jets where he was a reliable target, averaging 11.9 yards per reception. Not only does this move have the potential to improve the Miami passing game, but it stymies the offense in New York with the subtraction of the dependable Keller.
