Jordan Wants To Play Fast

And in his debut with the Dolphins, the speedy Jordan showed just how lethal he could be. In the fourth quarter, the rookie defensive end recorded the first sack of his career.
“I knew it was going to be tough,” Jordan said in an interview with The Finsider s. “They had me and Olivier Vernon out there kind of mixing it up, so I knew it was going to be a little tough. I just had to keep coming and eventually, towards the end of that game, I squeaked one by.”
Unfortunately, Jordan was also flagged for a facemask penalty on the same play, moving the Browns up 15 yards. However, the sack still counted and will go down in the books as the first of hopefully many for the Dolphins’ rookie defensive end.
“It was great,” he said. “Just having the ability to go out there and get a W, an away game first of all, and especially in the type of environment we were in, it was a real good experience for me personally.”
Jordan saw most of his action on special teams, but Miami’s top draft pick was happy to take on the role, despite it not being the most glamorous in the eyes of the general public.
“Any time I get a chance to step out there, it’s a great experience,” Jordan said. “I just try to make the most out of it. Of course I played a lot of special teams in high school and also at the college level, so it wasn’t nothing new for me.”
Part of being a first-year player in this league is putting in your time, along with observing how the veterans go about their work. When asked about the biggest difference from college to pro, Jordan smiled and brought up a teammate that has helped him along and led by example.
“One thing that I really noticed was consistency, especially when I get to see a guy like [Cameron] Wake out there,” Jordan said. “You get to see the way he comes off the ball and that game, I felt like nobody was even touching him as fast as he was getting over there. I noticed the consistency and just the way he comes off the ball. It’s just a repetitive type of thing for him.”
Jordan would like to get off the ball quickly himself.
“For me, the main thing is, I just try to get off the ball. I understand that’s to my advantage,” he said. “As long as I play with great speed, I can continue to get that advantage.”
But as far as success goes, Jordan isn’t too worried about personal accolades.
“Honestly, for me, success is winning,” Jordan said. “That’s how I measure my success. I just measure it by the wins and loss columns. But as a personal thing, obviously they brought me here to sack the quarterback.”
