Keller Feels Good About Switching Sides In Fins-Jets Rivalry

071613-keller660 [1]Dustin Keller knows a little bit about the AFC East.

He’s been in the division his entire career, having played for the New York Jets for the past five seasons. But this offseason he made a change by signing with Miami, making a jump across the historic rivalry between Gang Green and the Dolphins.

Now, Keller isn’t the first former Jets player to make the move down to South Beach. The Purdue product joins the likes of former quarterback Chad Pennington, former defensive tackle Jason Ferguson and current Dolphins linebacker Jason Trusnick.

But it doesn’t happen every day, especially with a player of Keller’s caliber.

In a recent interview with the Finsiders that aired on Tuesday afternoon, [2] Keller talked about the change he made this offseason, leaving New York after five seasons, and making the move to Miami.

Keller doesn’t believe that the move is a weird change, going from one divisional rival to another. He believes that the vibe around the Dolphins made the change easy on him.

“I don’t feel weird about it. I feel so comfortable with this team and with these guys,” Keller said. “Just immediately these guys kind of brought me in and made me feel good about the whole situation.”

In fact, he believes it’s a good move because of the advantages he’ll have over his former teammates.

“I think it’ll be a change, but a change for the better. Just being out there and I’ll be going against some familiar faces I’ve lined up against hundreds of times in practice, so I think I have an advantage there,” Keller said. “They may think they have the advantage, but they don’t.”

Not only is Keller a fan of the environment around the team, he’s a fan of the actual environment the Dolphins play in. Keller has had some great games at Sun Life Stadium, including a six-reception, 98-yard game against the Fins in 2010, where Keller caught two touchdowns.

As a matter of fact, he calls Sun Life Stadium paradise.

“It does help that you have that great weather. I think it pretty much in all those games it’s never rained or anything like that,” Keller said. “It’s been a pass catcher’s paradise.”
