Keller Says Tannehill Has Been Awesome To Work With
Posted By The Finsiders On July 23, 2013 @ 4:07 pm In Football | No Comments
Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill was given a plethora of weapons this summer courtesy of the Dolphins’ front office. Former Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace immediately jumps off the page with his lightning quick speed, as well as fellow new receiver Brandon Gibson, who many believe can have a big impact from the slot position.
But the guy who could end up being the most instrumental player in Tannehill’s development this season is former New York Jets tight end Dustin Keller.
After Monday’s practice, Keller spoke with the media about transitioning to the new offensive scheme , on his transition to the Dolphins so far, and working with Tannehill and Wallace.
(On transitioning to the Fins) -“It’s been good. For me offense is always a little bit sloppy but we cleaned a lot of things up today. The humidity, I got to get used to that, that’s a little change but I’m a little better than I was (the previous day) and I’m just going to continue to get better.”
(On how tough it is to deal with mistakes early) – “Yeah, especially when you’re coming from somewhere else and you know an offense so well and you have to come and basically be a rookie again and learn everything over again, but that’s the mindset you have to go into it with. You’re a rookie and you have to take it like its day one because basically it is.”
(On Ryan Tannehill) – “He’s been awesome; he has such a firm grasp on this offense, especially for a second year player. I know he’s been in this offense for a little while but he has a great feel for the guys around him. His protection is stepping up and finding spotters in the pocket. He’s doing a great job.”
(On the potential for the Dolphins’ receivers) – “The sky is the limit; you have a lot of really great guys that can make plays out there. It’s just a matter of putting the work in and making it happen because you can have the best receivers in the NFL but if they don’t gel well together then they’re the worst receivers in the NFL.”
(On working with Mike Wallace) – “It’s huge; he’s a guy that definitely opens up a lot of things. He draws a lot of attention, especially with me being inside or in the slot so I feel that gives me a lot of mismatches.”
