Philbin Looks For Team To Rebound Sunday
Posted By Sean Grimm On October 2, 2013 @ 10:52 am In Football | 2 Comments
The sting of Monday night’s loss may still be lingering in the Dolphins’ locker room, but the good news is, the short turnaround with Baltimore coming to town on Sunday has forced Miami to quickly move on and prepare for their next test.
Joe Philbin admitted as much in a discussion with The Finsiders on Tuesday afternoon.
“We’re not going to go in great depth in regards to New Orleans,” Philbin said. “There’s certain things we have to correct and fix. It can’t show up on the tape again. But now, we’re going over Baltimore and we’re getting ready to play a very, very good football team. And I think in one respect, it is good.”
The meeting with Baltimore is in fact good for a couple of reasons. Not only are the Ravens the defending Super Bowl champions, but they are also coming off a disappointing loss themselves, setting up a quality matchup on Sunday afternoon.
“It’s a very good football team,” Philbin said of Baltimore. “It’s an extremely well coached team. Obviously, they didn’t play well opening night but they certainly had two very strong victories after that and without question, had many, many opportunities to win the game yesterday. So, this is a very good football team. They’re multiple. They’ve got good personnel. And we’re going to have to have a great week of preparation.”
Much like Ryan Tannehill’s frustrating outing in New Orleans, the Ravens’ Joe Flacco is aiming to rebounding after tossing five interceptions against the Buffalo Bills. Philbin, however, understands Baltimore’s quarterback is a proven talent that will force Miami to do their homework.
“We know Flacco is a real pro with a great, great arm,” Philbin said, “so we’re certainly going to have to study the tape and see if there’s any indicators that we can get to help us in our preparation for these guys.”
The Ravens also have a dangerous weapon in Ray Rice. Rice, despite battling a hip injury, will be a ground threat the Dolphins’ defense have their eyes on all week.
“He’s got that good balance and a low center of gravity,” Philbin said. “And he’s tough and instinctive and those guys can cause problems for defenses, so we’re really going to have to do a good job setting the edges, keeping our pads square and just old fashion pursuit and tackle.”
In addition to their home field advantage, Philbin added perhaps they will be able to pick Dannell Ellerbe’s brain for a tip or two. Ellerbe won a Super Bowl with the Ravens last year.
“I think a little bit,” Philbin admitted. “There’s certainly things from a defensive standpoint that we can get from him and maybe some on the offense.”
The Dolphins will be looking to use every resource possible on Sunday as they look to bounce back and remain in the upper echelon of the AFC East standings.
