The Dolphins have kicked off the the free agency period with a flurry. After reports emerged earlier Tuesday that the Dolphins reached an agreement with free agent Mike Wallace, it now appears they may be nearing a deal with former Ravens linebacker Dannell Ellerbe.
The Baltimore Sun’s Aaron Wilson reports that the Ellerbe has “reached an agreement in principle” with the Dolphins.

With Ray Lewis nursing a triceps injury, Ellerbe saw his playing time increased in 2012. The four-year veteran set career highs in tackles (92), sacks (4.5) and forced fumbles (one), helping the Ravens defense adjust before the team’s magical postseason run. In the AFC Championship, the former Georgia Bulldog — who went undrafted in 2009 — came away with a fourth-quarter interception to help seal the Ravens victory.
