Reshad Jones: “Hard Work Pays Off”

“It felt great,” Jones said in an interview with The Finsiders . “I wanted to give glory to God. Hard work pays off. It feels good and I can put this behind me and now just go out and play football and go all out.”
In rewarding Jones with his new lucrative deal, the Dolphins hope the young safety will continue his trend of success from last season.
Jones, who describes himself as a Troy Polamalu-Ed Reed hybrid, recorded 73 total tackles and picked off opposing quarterbacks four times last year.
“Coach Coyle and the defensive staff, they tell us about the turnovers and we know the percentage for winning and losing with the turnover ratio is huge,” Jones said. “So creating turnovers on defense, that’s what we want. We want to give our offense another chance to go out there and put points on the board, so going after the ball, being aggressive—I think that’s always the key.”
However, Jones pointed to a younger defensive back when he revealed who’s had the most success attacking the ball thus far throughout training camp.
“Will Davis, he’s been around the ball tremendously,” Jones said. “He’s been getting his hands on the ball. Actually, I think he leads the group. We keep a chart in the DB room. Right now, he leads the group in pass breakups and interceptions.”
Jones raved about Davis’ work ethic and remarked how good it was to see it translate to the game. Davis made an athletic play to pick of Jacksonville’s Mike Kafka in the third quarter of last week’s preseason contest.
In terms of the defense as a whole, Jones feels good about where the unit stands as the regular season nears.
“We’re looking good out there right now,” he said. “I think it’s a great group. In the locker room, on the field, guys are kind of bonding around and feel good running around. We got some veteran guys in Brent Grimes and Dannell Ellerbe at linebacker that have been in this league for a while and seen and done a lot for this league.”
“I think we’re going to have a great season. It’s a tough league any given Sunday, we all know, but if we go out there and do what we do, I think we can have the best [defense].”
Jones added he believes this defense is the fastest group he has yet to be a part of, and he pointed to the big guys up front as a big reason why he believes they can be so successful.
“Oh, it’s huge, man,” Jones said of the defensive line. “You have to give credit to those guys. The plays that we make, you have to give credit to those guys putting pressure on the quarterback, getting in the quarterback’s face, making the quarterback a little bit earlier, get the ball out of his hands and give us extra opportunities to go out and make those kind of plays.”
