Tannehill States Goals For Training Camp

072013-tannehill660Last year at this time, Ryan Tannehill was considered a long shot by many to be the Dolphins starting quarterback in his rookie year; 12 months later, things are quite different as Tannehill prepares for his second season firmly entrenched as the Dolphins starter after starting all 16 of the team’s games in 2012. Prior to reporting to Dolphins training camp on Saturday, quarterback Ryan Tannehill discussed his goals heading into this training camp as well as a plethora of other subjects during a special “Inside The Huddle” conference call for Dolphins Season Ticket Members and other select fans.

(On his goal entering training camp and his goal for the team)- “My goal heading into training camp is to just improve everyday. I think you have to take full advantage of every practice, walk thru and of every meeting time. Training camp is a very long period of time for us. We are up here a lot putting in a lot of hours and it is easy to sit back and let a practice get away from you. My goal going in is to take advantage of everyday, learn from every mistake and not to make the same mistake twice.”

(On the vibe in the locker room) –“ I think were excited obviously coming into this year there was a different vibe in the locker room just with all the new additions. Being our second year under Coach Philbin everyone kind of knew what the deal was already going into this off-season and knew what to expect. There is definitely a different vibe coming into this season we have a lot of potential. We haven’t done anything to get to our goals yet so we have to have a great training camp and preseason that way we can head into the season where we want to be at.”

(On his veteran QB mentors and reaching out for advice) – “There are a lot of guys that I look up to in this league and I learn from if not personally you know on tape. All the guys that are at the top of the game that have been doing it for years, you know the offseason is a great time for me where I can watch their games, watch cut ups and try to learn from those guys. A guy that I have reached out to personally and spent some time with is Chad Pennington, who was here just a few years ago. I went up to Kentucky to see him and spend some time with him and he also came down here in the spring when we were practicing. I spent a lot of time with Chad on and off the field and he has been a big help to me.”

(On the addition of Mike Wallace) –“ What Mike brings to the table can really open up things for the other guys having a guy with that kind of speed being able to take the top off and being a threat to the safeties down field is huge in opening up things through the middle for the tight ends and inside receivers as well. I think that’s not only the threat of him but being able to use him deep will be huge for us.”

(On importance of establishing the deep ball early in the season) –“ I think that it would be a good thing if we establish it early. I have a lot of confidence in Mike Wallace and what he can do so whether he catches a touchdown in the first game or if its not until the fifth sixth or ninth game I have a lot of confidence in what he can do. If we don’t get started early that doesn’t mean its not going to be a good year but we will be working towards that as we enter training camp.”
