The Chargers’ 27-20 win in Denver last night changes things a little bit…and for the better. San Diego is now 7-7 which makes the possibility of a three-way tie between Miami, Baltimore and the Chargers a bit more likely. And if there were to be a three-way tie between those teams after 16 games, it would be the Dolphins who would advance to the postseason–assuming the Ravens lose at least one of their remaining AFC games (vs. NE or at CIN).
Miami’s best bet, of course, would be to sweep the final three games of their season. If they do, the only help they would need would be one loss by the Ravens. Schedules for the teams are below:
Thanks to their wild win in Pittsburgh yesterday, the Dolphins moved back above .500 to 7-6 and with three game remaining in the 2013 regular season, there is still a lot on the line for Miami as they start to get ready for an AFC East showdown with the Patriots this weekend at Sun Life Stadium.
Starting with the division, New England’s magic number to clinch the AFC East is one. This means they need just one more win OR one more Dolphins loss to clinch. So basically, the Dolphins would need to win each of their final three games and the Patriots would have to lose the rest of their games in order for Miami to win the division.
That brings us to the Wild Card, where the Dolphins need a lot less help. The first spot is likely going to Kansas City (10-3) with one other spot up for grabs. Like last week, that spot is currently held by the Ravens (7-6) because of tiebreakers over the Dolphins (also 7-6). That said, a lot can happen in the final three weeks. Here’s a look at the remaining schedules for the two teams:
Dolphins (7-6): vs. NE; at BUF; vs. NYJ
Ravens (7-6): at DET; vs. NE; at CIN
The Chargers and Jets are both waiting in the wings if Miami and Baltimore falter down the stretch. A quick peek at their final three weeks:
San Diego (7-7): vs. OAK, vs. KC
NY Jets (6-7): at CAR, vs. CLE, at MIA
Lastly, with Week 14 mostly in the books, here are the three playoff spots that have been clinched:
AFC South: Colts
AFC Playoffs: Broncos
NFC Playoffs: Seahawks
