Vernon Attributes Success To Technique

102313-vernon660Olivier Vernon has suddenly burst onto the scene as one of the Dolphins’ top pass rushers this year, as the second-year defensive end out of the University of Miami leads the team with 3.5 sacks.

Vernon racked up 3.5 sacks throughout the entirety of his rookie campaign with Miami, and says the biggest difference between last year and now has been his attention to detail.

“I would just say my technique,” Vernon said in an interview with The Finsiders. “That’s one thing I was working on last year –bringing my technique into the games. Learning from guys like Cam Wake, Paul Soliai, Randy Starks, [Jared Odrick]—just looking at them practice and looking at their technique, the fundamentals and that’s just helped me grow a lot more. And I’m just trying to get better.”

Vernon has undoubtedly gotten better and in his second year, he’s also taken on more of a leadership role along the defensive line.

“I tell Dion [Jordan] the things I had to learn my first year, just sharing some of the knowledge I gained my first year…he’s coming along real well. He’s making big plays out there.”
