Wake Eliminates Distractions
By on November 7, 2013 at 6:35 pm

Cam WakeA seasoned veteran and one of the leaders in the Dolphins locker room, Cameron Wake knows what it takes to avoid distractions in this league and he is focusing on one thing: winning football games.

And the next one up is a Monday night meeting with the Buccaneers in Tampa, who lost in heartbreaking fashion on the road in Seattle last weekend to fall to 0-8 on the year.

“It’s going pretty good so far—a good week of practice getting ready for another primetime game under the lights, which is always a lot of fun,” Wake said of this week in an interview with The Finsiders. “I’m looking forward to it.”

As for the potential distraction the national media is talking about, Wake insists the issue won’t get in their way of preparation for Monday night.

“The people who talk about that are more on the outside looking in,” he said. “Football is full of distractions. [Whether] it’s something going on in your home, you forgot to feed your dog, or it’s raining, it’s snowing, it’s hot and you’re tired, the crowd is screaming, you can’t get a call, you’re bleeding—those are all distractions.

“And the way football is set up is, you have to eliminate all those things. It doesn’t matter what’s going on. You have a job and it’s making a tackle, catching a ball—you have to get that job done. Day-to-day, week-to-week, we eliminate those distractions and we go out there and do our jobs. So, we have nothing but professionals in the locker room and I wouldn’t expect anything but that.”

The other possible distraction that may loom for Miami is that of a letdown, as Tampa Bay stands winless halfway through the season. Wake, however, isn’t worried about that, either.

“When we’re getting ready for games, we’re not looking at their record to say, ‘Oh, this a type of game’ or ‘Oh, this is the level that we have to be’,” Wake said. “It’s not like that. This is the NFL. Every player that’s in this league is the best at what they do in the world. Any given Sunday, anything can happen.”

“It’s going to be a hard fought football game and we’re going to have to put our best foot forward.”
