What They’re Saying: Fins On The Bills
By on October 19, 2013 at 12:39 pm

091113-jordan768Coming off a bye week, the Dolphins take the field at Sun Life Stadium this weekend against the Buffalo Bills with hope of getting back on track after a couple of losses to New Orleans and Baltimore. See what’s been said around the organization throughout the past week about the upcoming game against the Bills.

Coach Philbin

On Buffalo’s defense: “They do an excellent job of takeaways. They are very multiple. They have good pressure package, a wide variety of what they do. They are playing well, a good defense.”

On Buffalo’s running backs, C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson: “They both have a little different skillset. They are both excellent players. There is no secret why they are averaging 150 yards a game rushing. These guys, there offensive line is playing well. They have a good scheme. They have two very, very productive backs. It’s going to be incumbent on us to have good block protection, get off of blocks, tackle well, pursue well. Certainly nothing magical.”

On Bills’ defensive end Mario Williams: “He’s got excellent length, number one. He gets off on the football very well. He has a variety of moves. They move him around nicely within the scheme. He’s not always in one place, so it’s hard to say he’s always going to be there and you can put a specific player on him all the time. And he’s a good football player. He’s a competitor. He’s definitely having a good year.”

Ryan Tannehill

On Mario Williams: “I think he’s doing a really good job, he’s being a threat, he’s moving around, they have him moving around on all different positions on the defensive front.  You can’t just key in on one side of the line or one spot at defensive end for him.  They’ll put him right over the center, bring him in an ‘A’ gap, do a lot of different things with him.  He’s definitely a force to be reckoned with and we’re going to have to handle that.”

On the Buffalo defense: “They show a lot of looks.  They’ll use dime personnel a lot on 3rd down and they show a lot of different looks at you.  It makes it tough to identify, they want to get pressure on the QB and that’s something that we’re going to have to handle.”

On Buffalo’s rookie linebacker Kiko Alonso:  “He’s a good player.  He flies around all over the field, he made some big plays down on the goal line against Cleveland also, I don’t know how many total interceptions he has but you can see he has good ball skills.  When the ball is in the air he’s not afraid to go get it, and feels very comfortable catching the ball.  He’s definitely a guy that we’ll have to account for.”

Mike Wallace

On the Buffalo defense: “They make plays. They have a really good pass-rush.  They’re going to get pressure on our guys, so we have to do a really good job up front. And on the outside, they’re going to press a lot, so you have to beat man-to-man coverage.”

Dion Jordan

On the Bills’ quarterback situation: “Regardless of who’s behind center, they’re going to stay with their style of play. All three of their quarterbacks are kind of similar. They like to run that zone-read type of ball things.”

Brent Grimes

On Buffalo’s offense: “They love to run the ball. You just look at the numbers and the attempts they got a game, but not only do they love to do it, they’re good at it. Their line blocks for them, they’ve got good backs—two good backs and they make plays on the ground. And then when they want to take shots, they can do that. They have some talented receivers, so they have an offense and they know what they want to do with it. They want to run the ball, control the clock and get some big chunks out of the run game and then take some chunks in the pass game.

“As you can see, all of their games have been close. They’re not giving games away. They’re fighting to the end and they’re a solid team.”

Philip Wheeler

On Buffalo’s running game: “They’ve got a really good run game, so it’s going to be very physical. [Spiller] is very fast and they’ve got not only C.J. Spiller, but they’ve got Fred Jackson—we just have to play disciplined.”
