Minicamp 2014 is now history and the players are off on their own for a little more than a month. The smart ones will balance time off with the urgency of continuing to get ready for what should be a highly competitive training camp.

Some post-minicamp observations:

• I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that this team has more talent and depth than the previous two under Joe Philbin. It will all come down, as I’ve said before, to piecing it all together. That will be the greatest challenge of training camp.

• Wide receiver may be the deepest area on the team. If this group stays healthy, I wouldn’t want to decide who stays and who goes.

• I continue to reside on the Jarvis Landry bandwagon and what his teammates are saying only strengthens my conviction. “He’s like a veteran out there,” said quarterback Matt Moore. “You watch him and you can’t believe some of the things he does, especially as a rookie.”

• With so many new and enticing storylines in camp, tight end Charles Clay is flying under the radar. But every once in a while he’ll make one of those catches that reminds you what a special player he has become.

• Granted, it’s still very early, but I’ve got a feeling Michael Egnew is going to turn a few heads this season.

• So far so good on the Koa Misi move to inside linebacker. When the pads come on in late July, we’ll know a lot more.

Enjoy the next month. Training camp will be here before you know it. And that’s when the real fun begins!
