Posted By The Finsiders On February 12, 2014 @ 11:48 am In Football | 5 Comments

021114-awards660 [1]After Brent Grimes took home the honors for the Dolphins Most Outstanding Defensive Player on Tuesday [2], today we turn our attention to the offensive side of the ball to hand out the award for the Most Outstanding Offensive Player of 2013. The committee for the awards consists of writers for Dolphins.com, Dolphins.com/Espanol and TheFinsiders.com, the on-air hosts for The Finsiders daily show, and most importantly, you, the fans.

Let’s take a look at the nominees for the top Dolphins offensive player of 2013:

  • Charles Clay….Clay developed into a major weapon for the Dolphins offense [3]this past season, collecting a team-high 6 receiving touchdowns and posting the second-best yardage and reception totals for a tight end in Dolphins history.
  • Brian Hartline…..Hartline continued to click with Ryan Tannehill in 2013 as he went over 1,000 yards receiving [4] for the second straight season and also had a team-best 76 catches.
  • Mike Pouncey….Pouncey, the Dolphins third-year center, made his first Pro Bowl in 2013 with strong play in the middle of the Dolphins offensive line.
  • Ryan Tannehill….in his second season, Tannehill stepped up his game [5]to finish in the Top 12 of NFL quarterbacks in completions, yards and touchdown passes.
  • Mike Wallace….in his first season with the Dolphins [6], Wallace posted a career-high 73 receptions while recording 930 receiving yards, including a team-best four 100-yard receiving games

Writer Selections

Andy Cohen: Charles Clay. When the Dolphins needed a big play, a game-defining moment, it seemed as if Clay was always first in line. A tackle breaking run against San Diego, a huge score against Pittsburgh. Clay gave the Dolphins toughness and reliability.

Andy Kent: Charles Clay. After veteran free agent tight end Dustin Keller was lost for the season before Week 1, Clay seamlessly transitioned into the starting role and became Ryan Tannehill’s go-to player in the passing game with a team-leading six touchdown receptions.

Alain Poupart: Mike Wallace. Wallace’s impact on the Dolphins offense went beyond his numbers, which were pretty solid on their own. Wallace demanded more attention from defenses than any other Dolphins offensive player and also got open deep on a regular basis.

Raul Striker: Charles Clay. Clay nearly caught 70 passes, led the team in touchdown receptions and stayed true to his “Big Play Clay” moniker, as he was involved in multiple key plays, including impressive touchdown catches against the Steelers and Chargers, plus the big 4th down and 6 versus New England, when Miami still controlled their playoff destiny. Clay was an outstanding performer at the toughest position on the offense aside from QB, lining up as a TE, FB and WR and contributing to both the running and passing attacks.

Finsiders Analyst Selections

During The Finsiders live show on Wednesday afternoon on FOX Sports Florida, the broadcast crew provided their votes [7]. While O.J. McDuffie selected Ryan Tannehill, the other three votes; those of John Congemi, Tristin Jones and the fans in the comment center at Dolphins.com all went to Charles Clay. Thus, Clay was a clear winner of the Finsiders Award for Most Outstanding Offensive Player of 2013.
