Prior to the selection of Ryan Tannehill, the Miami Dolphins had only drafted three first-round quarterbacks in franchise history.
The second of the three, Bob Griese, joined The Finsiders to discuss his reaction to the pick and whether he thinks Tannehill should play right away.
“If they had let him go that would be alright because they know more about the than we do,” Griese said.
After months of intense speculation, the Miami Dolphins did, indeed, take Ryan Tannehill with the eighth pick in the draft.
With some other potential options available, there were questions as to whether the Dolphins would go all-in at quarterback.
“The best way to indicate if the Miami Dolphins really liked him was to see if they were going to select him at eight, and they did,” said John Congemi, who played quarterback at Pittsburgh and in the Canadian Football League.
With the eighth overall pick in the 2012 Draft, the Miami Dolphins chose quarterback Ryan Tannehill out of Texas A&M. Below are links to complete coverage of the historic selection:

After months of discussion and analysis, the day has arrived. The 2012 NFL Draft begins at 8 o’clock tonight at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and finally predictions will turn into second-guessing, which I suppose is a step in the right direction. Before that, though, one final round of predictions about what the Dolphins will do with the eighth overall pick in the Draft from around the web:
Mike Mayock, NFL Network: Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M
Everybody wants to talk about Tannehill at No.
For the first time since Jimmy Johnson was the head coach of the Dolphins, the team’s “War Room” will be featured on television during tomorrow night’s first round of the NFL Draft.
Both the NFL Network and ESPN will have access to a camera feed inside the draft room that will show Jeff Ireland, Joe Philbin and others as they prepare to make their first round selection.
In case you missed it, here’s the best of the best from a busy Tuesday at Dolphins.com:

- Matt Moore answers post-practice questions from the media about his expectations learning the new offense
- Defensive end Jared Odrick joins The Finsiders and said that his Pee-Wee sack dance could make a return this season
- Karlos Dansby has a message for Dolphins fans during a session with the media

If the Dolphins decide to take Ryan Tannehill with the eighth pick in Thursday’s draft, it will only be the third time in franchise history they’ve selected a quarterback in the first round.
According to NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal, the Dolphins’ last first-round quarterback, Dan Marino, thinks that the team should seriously consider taking Tannehill if they have a positive conviction about him.
