The Dolphins look to run their preseason record to 3-0 tonight when they travel across the state to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium.
The Fins are coming off of a 20-10 win over Carolina, while the now 1-1 Bucs were dropped 31-14 by the Patriots. Last week for Miami, the offense put up 301 total yards in the first half and the defense held the Panthers without a point until the fourth quarter.
The Dolphins linebacker spoke to our Jesse Agler about his first game in a Dolphins uniform after being injured all of last season. Watch to see why Friday night’s game is a significant moment in Edds’ young NFL career.

Everyone always talks about the Dolphins’ offense and if quarterback Chad Henne will have a breakout season, or if Karlos Dansby and Cameron Wake can lead the defense in 2011. It’s very seldom that the conversation would turn to the special teams unit and whether or not they can carry their weight next season. It seems like the only time their names get mentioned is if Dan Carpenter misses a field goal or Brandon Fields hits one off the side of his foot!
Defensive Questions for Sam Madison & Kim Bokamper…
George Taffur (Facebook): Sam, with so much attention going to the offensive side of the ball in the draft, what kind of NEW things can we expect from the defense?
Sam Madison: That’s a good question, George. With all of the firepower that the Dolphins brought in on offense, you have to figure and hope that it will give the defense an opportunity to rest up a little bit more between possessions.
The Miami Dolphins finished 22nd in total defense in 2009. Following the season Tony Sparano and Jeff Ireland set out on a mission to improve the defense, and after an off-season filled with changes on that side of the ball, the unit finished 6th in that category in 2010. Now this year as John Congemi explains, the Dolphins brass is working on revamping the offense in a very similar fashion with new Offensive Coordinator Brian Daboll.
With the start of the NFL Draft now less than a week away, it’s time to start analyzing what the decision makers are saying. Yesterday, Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland met with the media and discussed several of the big Fins-related issues that are coming around the corner, both in the draft and in free agency. John Congemi breaks it all down…
Jeff Ireland’s Pre-Draft Press Conference
Jeff Ireland stepped to the podium yesterday and had a lot to say about the process and evaluations that have been taking place leading up to this year’s draft.
Between his team’s two practices today, Coach Sparano met with the media to discuss the goings-on as we (finally) close in on the first pre-season game of 2010. Early on, Sparano was asked about TE David Martin, back with the team after starring in 2008 and missing all of 2009. The coach said that he really isn’t thinking about ’08 at all and that he is just looking to create competition.
Coach Sparano met with the assembled media early this afternoon between practices on Day 6 of training camp. The big news of the day is that RB/KR Kory Sheets suffered an apparent achilles tear and while the coach told us he wasn’t sure of the extent of the injury, our friend Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald is reporting that it is a tear, which would most likely mean that Sheets is done for the season.
Coach Sparano met with the media late this morning and discussed some of the topics of the day. Unfortunately, the first bit of news was bad news, as the coach confirmed reports that rookie linebacker AJ Edds has a torn ACL and will most likely miss the season. This is a definite bad break for Miami, as Edds was expected to be a contributor in his first season.
