Today the Miami Dolphins announced that they have terminated the contract of two players, waived 18 others, and acquired versatile offensive lineman Pat McQuistan from the Cowboys for an undisclosed draft pick.
There are some definite surprises here, starting with the fact that TE David Martin, re-signed midway through training camp, has had his contract terminated. The team can, of course, bring him back early in the regular season, which could change the amount of guaranteed money that he is owed.
Between practices this afternoon, Coach Sparano met with the media and I took away some interesting tidbits. First off, both receiver Greg Camarillo and center Jake Grove sustained what looked like minor injuries late in the morning practice session. The coach would not address either issue, simply saying that he had no medical report. Multiple newspaper reports, though, indicate that neither issue is serious.
On a team coached by Tony Sparano and an organization overseen by Bill Parcells, you better believe that there is a definite focus on the play of both the offensive and defensive lines. As we continue our pre-season preview of the Dolphins roster, we move into the 60′s, which means more attention on those trench players so beloved by the coach…
