Tuesday will be a day of rest for the Miami Dolphins players and after the first four days of training camp, it well deserved!
First-time Head Coach Joe Philbin has definitely changed the way this team moves on the practice field and most noticeable difference is the amount of team repetitions that have taken place.
All four days have been crisp for the most part with both sides of the football showing signs that this team doesn’t believe the national perception of having a middle of the road season!
Officially tomorrow makes two weeks away from the start of Training Camp 2012 for the Miami Dolphins, and position battles on both sides of the football have been discussed by arm chair quarterbacks all across South Florida! Quarterback and wide receiver are the two positions on offense that garner most of the attention, but on defense, I’m going to focus on the linebacker position.
The following post is based on a media report and has neither been confirmed nor announced by the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins, looking to add some depth at linebacker, worked out four free agents early last week.
With voluntary workouts underway, the Dolphins announced they are bringing back two members of last year’s team.
Merling, who is entering his fifth season, all with the Dolphins, will look to compete for playing time on the defensive line. The Dolphins selected Merling the with the 32nd overall selection, the first pick in the second round 0f the 2008 draft.
After adding Tyrell Johnson last week, the Dolphins may not be finished adding to the defense yet.
Sources told the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson that the Dolphins hosted free agents Gary Guyton and Bryan Kehl on Monday and that the meeting are expected to continue today.
Guyton, who played four years for the New England Patriots, started 32 games at linebacker after being undrafted out of Georgia Tech.
