Week 2

The Miami Dolphins will play their second game of the 2010 season this Sunday afternoon as they travel to the great white north to take on the Minnesota Vikings. The Fins are looking to start the season 2-0 for the first time since 2002 and will face that challenge in one of the NFL’s most difficult stadiums.

The Vikes are opening up their 50th anniversary season and are 14-2 at home the last two years, including a perfect 8-0 in 2009.

Coach Tony Sparano met with the media today as the Fins are officially in Minnesota-mode. With the day off yesterday, the team returned to practice today, and afterwards, the coach was asked about a variety of topics. When addressing the Vikings’ run defense, Sparano said that their unit is one of the best he’s seen “in a long time” but that you still have to run the ball and play to your own strengths.

Well, it may be a day off for a lot of folks out there, but the Dolphins were back at work today, practicing in preparation for Sunday’s Week 1 opener against the Bills. The team also made some roster moves today, adding LB Bobby Carpenter, a fifth year player out of Ohio State and another former Cowboy. To make room for him, the team released Charlie Anderson.

Wide receiver Marlon Moore was in studio for the start of the show today and had a very entertaining discussion with Jesse, Kim, and Jeff (sort of), about a variety of topics, including his time as a broadcast journalism student at Fresno State, his discussions with fellow WR Davone Bess about trying to make the team as an undrafted free agent, the Greg Camarillo trade, and why Tony Sparano said he plays “brave” for a little guy.

Welcome to the first edition of “Ask Agler,” which is basically The Finsiders mailbag. Each and every week, I’ll take reader submitted questions about the team, the radio show, the Fintern, whatever, and do my best to answer them for you.

If you have a question, you can submit it here or just e-mail askagler@dolphins.com. Without further ado, here are your questions…and my answers:

BuckeyeDolFan, Geneva, OH: So what do you think of the Greg Camarillo trade?

By on August 28, 2010 at 12:10 am

Well, the weather was good.

The football, not so much. After two straight pre-season games with less than ideal meteorological conditions, the Dolphins were 2-0. Tonight there was no rain but there weren’t many highlights either, as the Falcons flew south and ended the Fins nine game pre-season winning streak.

Of course the exhibition season isn’t so much about winning and losing as it is about how the team looks.

The Dolphins practiced in the bubble this afternoon and afterwards coach Tony Sparano met with the media and discussed, among other things, the team’s pending trade of WR Greg Camarillo to the Vikings for CB Benny Sapp.

When talking about the trade, Sparano said that WR was a “strong unit” and that he has been impressed with all of the guys throughout training camp, which makes it clear why the team was comfortable trading away a guy as reliable as Camarillo (he had literally zero drops last season).

Coach Tony Sparano met with the media today before practice and gave some thoughts on the state of the team. He also mentioned that he was not too worried about any longterm problems relating to the injuries to Greg Camarillo, Reshad Jones, Tristan Davis, or Channing Crowder, all of whom have missed some practice time as of late.

A highly entertaining meeting between coach Tony Sparano and the media this afternoon, as the coach discussed a couple of more colorful subjects than normal. First, though, the latest on the injury front: Guard John Jerry once again missed the bulk of the morning practice today and Sparano said he is concerned, though not “very concerned” about the health of his rookie third rounder.
