Officially tomorrow makes two weeks away from the start of Training Camp 2012 for the Miami Dolphins, and position battles on both sides of the football have been discussed by arm chair quarterbacks all across South Florida! Quarterback and wide receiver are the two positions on offense that garner most of the attention, but on defense, I’m going to focus on the linebacker position.
With a nice combination of moves, the Miami Dolphins have transformed their linebackers group over the off-season. In 2010, the unit helped the Dolphins finish sixth in the league in total defense thanks to a Pro Bowl outside linebacker in Cam Wake and a very good inside linebacker in Karlos Dansby. However, with a series of moves this off-season the Dolphins have added depth at the position to supplement talented returning LBs: Wake, Dansby and Koa Misi.
With this first week of player movement well underway, the Dolphins today announced 11 player signings. Per the rules of the new collective bargaining agreement, teams cannot sign veteran free agents until Friday at 6pm, but they are able to sign undrafted rookies. Jeff Ireland and company have added the following players to their roster:
Vincent Agnew, CB, Central Michigan
Brett Brackett, TE, Penn State
Garrett Chisolm, OG, South Carolina
Pat Devlin, QB, Delaware
Jonathan Freeny, LB, Rutgers
Nic Grigsby, RB, Arizona
DJ Jones, OT, Nebraska
Johnny Jones, DT, Marshall
Phillip Livas, WR, Louisiana Tech
Jose Perez, CB, San Diego State
Quinton Spears, LB, Prairie View A&M
