Today is the first official day of the Dolphins’ 2011 Training Camp and while the team will be restricted to classrooms and meeting rooms (thanks to the new CBA), there’s still plenty to discuss on both sides of the ball.
Continuing our series of training camp previews, I’m going to focus on the defensive backfield. There are some big names in the Fins’ secondary, but also a role or two potentially up for grabs.
At the top of today’s show, we will spotlight Dolphins safety Jonathon Amaya. Then you won’t want to miss our Locker Room Blitz at 5:30.

Well, it may be a day off for a lot of folks out there, but the Dolphins were back at work today, practicing in preparation for Sunday’s Week 1 opener against the Bills. The team also made some roster moves today, adding LB Bobby Carpenter, a fifth year player out of Ohio State and another former Cowboy. To make room for him, the team released Charlie Anderson.
Today the Miami Dolphins announced that they have terminated the contract of two players, waived 18 others, and acquired versatile offensive lineman Pat McQuistan from the Cowboys for an undisclosed draft pick.
There are some definite surprises here, starting with the fact that TE David Martin, re-signed midway through training camp, has had his contract terminated. The team can, of course, bring him back early in the regular season, which could change the amount of guaranteed money that he is owed.
On day two of training camp, we’re already more than halfway through the numerical roster, having worked our way down through the 90′s, the 80′s, the 70′s, 60′s, and 50′s. The excitement of the running backs is fast approaching, but here we get to know a good chunk of defensive players as well as one man who lines up in the offensive backfield.
