The speculation began when Kevin Coyle was hired earlier this year. Would the Dolphins switch from a 3-4 defense to a 4-3? Throughout the off-season, it’s become increasingly clear that, yes, they have. While this has caused much of the focus to be on the defensive line–Cam Wake should have his hand in the dirt much more often–the linebackers’ assignments have also changed.
The NFL released the 2012 preseason schedules today and the Dolphins will be locking horns with some familiar opponents in the month of August. The Fins open up at home against Tampa Bay, then travel to Carolina, host Atlanta and visit Dallas. Below are several storylines that we’ll be discussing as kickoff gets closer:

These two teams last faced each other to open the season with the Patriots winning 38-24, and now New England is looking to extend their six game winning streak. In that week one game, these two teams combined for the most passing yards in NFL history with 906 yards.

The Miami Dolphins (4-9) travel to Ralph Wilson Stadium on Sunday to face the Buffalo Bills (5-8) in this AFC East matchup. The Dolphins won the first meeting between these two teams 35-8 on November 20th at Sun Life Stadium, and also won the last time they traveled to Buffalo 15-10 in September of last year. Miami holds the series lead 54-36-1 and this game marks the first head coaching assignment for Miami’s interim coach Todd Bowles.
