Today the Dolphins cut their roster down to 53 players in advance of the start of the regular season. The roster moves were made in three different categories:
-20 players were waived. These are players with less than four years service time and they must pass through the waiver wire.
-Six players had their contracts terminated. These are veterans with four or more years in the league.
After what seems like an abnormally long NFL off-season (even though it really wasn’t), football is finally back. The Fins open up the 2011 preseason tonight at the Georgia Dome against the defending #1 seed in the NFC playoffs, the Atlanta Falcons.
While the Falcons–a team that went 13-3 last year–are coming off a stinging blowout loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Playoffs, the Dolphins are looking to start fresh after a second consecutive 7-9 season.
Time to continue our breakdown of the positional battles taking place in training camp this year and focus on the running backs. With Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams both looking like they’ll be playing elsewhere in 2011, there are plenty of carries and yards that must be accounted for by the rest of the group.
There are several new faces at the position, but none bigger than Reggie Bush and rookie Daniel Thomas.
Hardcore fans, Madden enthusiasts, and jersey collectors are always interested in the newest players and what numbers they’ll be wearing. So, without delay, here is your first look at the uniform numbers of the rookie class of 2011:
