Two days after the team’s first scrimmage of training camp 2012, coach Joe Philbin released his first depth chart of the season.

While there are obviously many things that will change between now and Week 1 at Houston, this piece of paper certainly gives us a decent idea of where the coaching staff’s heads are at.

Starting where most fans are most interested, David Garrard is listed as the starting quarterback.

Tuesday will be a day of rest for the Miami Dolphins players and after the first four days of training camp, it well deserved!

First-time Head Coach Joe Philbin has definitely changed the way this team moves on the practice field and most noticeable difference is the amount of team repetitions that have taken place.

All four days have been crisp for the most part with both sides of the football showing signs that this team doesn’t believe the national perception of having a middle of the road season!

Because he starred locally at the University of Miami, fan expectations for Lamar Miller, the Dolphins’ fourth-round selection, are high heading into his rookie season. Miller recently spoke with John Congemi and Sam Madison about his expectations heading into training camp and how’s had to adjust to practicing in an NFL offense. Here’s what he had to say:

On transitioning from being a Miami Hurricane to a Miami Dolphin:

“It’s very special just staying at home, playing on my home field at Sun Life Stadium.

With the start of training camp now just a couple of weeks away, it’s time to take a look at what will be some of the most hotly contested roster battles, beginning with the running backs.

The Dolphins currently have nine RB’s (seven halfbacks and two fullbacks) on their 90 man roster and to give you an idea of the reality of the situation: last year, Miami basically carried four men at this position.

After one of last week’s OTA practices, Jesse Agler caught up with Lamar Miller to see how he’s adjusting this summer. Here’s what he had to say:

On his progress

“I think I’ve  come a long way from the rookie mini-camp. During rookie mini-camp I had to get used to the players and tempo. Now, since the veterans came along in the OTA’s, it has been good to learn from some of the veterans such as Reggie Bush, Steve Slaton and Daniel Thomas, who are helping me and the other rookies out during the practice.

During the pre-draft process, the Dolphins hosted a local pro day to check out the area’s top college prospects.

Apparently, a few former Miami Hurricanes caught their eye.

With the selections of Olivier Vernon and Lamar Miller the Dolphins ended a local drought of sorts, taking a Hurricane for the first time since they used a first-round pick on Vernon Carey in 2004.

The running back position is an interesting one. While the value of the franchise quarterback has increased exponentially in recent years, we’ve seen a bit of a shift as far as RB value goes. The term “dime a dozen” gets used a lot when discussing the guys that smash head-first into the trenches 20+ times a game. With so much emphasis on the passing game, teams are less and less likely to use high draft picks or big money on a RB, though there are some exceptions.
